South Cave to Market Weighton

North of South Cave the landscape opens onto wide field tops where, on clear days, the views seem to stretch forever. The route is dominated by farming and grazing fields separated by long, straight hedgerows, with wheat, barley, and oats rippling in the breeze.

A surprising modern addition is Little Wold Vineyard at South Cave. Despite the cool northern climate, rich soils and sunny south-facing slopes have allowed successful wine production.

Nearby, massive wind turbines provide a rhythmic accompaniment to the walk. The woods north of South Cave may offer glimpses of deer, badgers, and occasionally red squirrels.

The route offers a choice: the main trail leads to Goodmanham, known for its historic church and the Goodmanham Arms pub, while an alternative loop takes walkers through Market Weighton - a crucial stop for supplies, as amenities elsewhere on the trail are notoriously sparse.
