Market Weighton to Millington

The section between Market Weighton and Thixendale is often described by walkers as a "rollercoaster". Although the Wolds have no mountains, the trail frequently drops in and out of deep, steep-sided dry valleys carved into the chalk over millions of years.

These valleys feature calcium-rich soils that support a lush carpet of summer wildflowers, including rare Bee Orchids and yellow worts.

The trail visits Nunburnholme, where the Victorian naturalist Reverend Francis Orpen Morris served as vicar and catalogued the local birdlife for his definitive guides.

The route then climbs above Millington, providing scenic ridge walks before descending into more isolated dales toward Thixendale.
