Millington to Wharram Percy

Thixendale is one of the most isolated villages in the Wolds, nestled deep in a valley where the landscape has remained largely unchanged for generations. It was famously one of the last places in England to receive a reliable television signal.

The WANDER project artwork "Time and Flow," a dramatic spiral earthwork, lies near Thixendale. Poetry benches along the route encourage walkers to pause and take in the views.

Beyond Thixendale the trail reaches its highest point at approximately 700 feet before descending into Deepdale to reveal Wharram Percy.

Wharram Percy is the most famous of over 100 deserted medieval villages in the Yorkshire Wolds. Abandoned in the 15th century, only the ruined walls of St Martin's Church remain standing - a hauntingly beautiful spot for reflection.
