Villages

The Yorkshire Wolds Way often skirts settlements rather than passing through their centres. Allow extra time and mileage to reach shops, pubs, and overnight stays.

Hessle and North Ferriby mark the southern start beside the Humber. At Ferriby walkers choose between a low-tide shoreline route or a high-tide detour through the village - the foreshore path can be treacherous in mud.

South Cave sits where the trail climbs onto the Wolds. Nearby, Little Wold Vineyard and wind turbines add a modern note to the chalk landscape. Goodmanham offers a historic church and the Goodmanham Arms, while Market Weighton is a crucial stop for supplies.

Millington and Thixendale lie in the heart of the dry valleys. Thixendale is one of the most isolated villages in the Wolds and was famously among the last places in England to receive reliable television reception.

Wintringham and Muston feature on the approach to the coast. Filey is the bustling seaside finish, with Main Street, promenade, and the cliff-top path to Filey Brigg.
